Lanson Place Causeway Bay, Hong Kong Achieves Green Key Certification

Hong Kong, 9 May 2025 – Lanson Place Causeway Bay, Hong Kong announces that it has received the Green Key certification, an eco-certification that demonstrates the hotel’s commitment to meeting the stringent criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Green Key became one of the five programmes under FEE in 2002, encompassing 13 categories and more than 100 criteria. Today, it recognises over 7,500 establishments across 80 countries that strive to uphold the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility.

At Lanson Place Causeway Bay, sustainability is seamlessly integrated into its operations. A Green Committee has been formed to continuously monitor the hotel’s sustainability performance, identify environmental risks and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing its social and environmental impact. Lanson Place has established a comprehensive sustainability policy displayed at the hotel to align its staff members with this commitment. Key areas of focus include legal compliance, stakeholder engagement, responsible sourcing and prioritising local employment.

To achieve Green Key certification, the hotel has established 16 goals across seven departments since its reopening in March 2024. These goals highlight the reduction of energy consumption, water usage and its carbon footprint. It also implements various recycling programmes and waste management initiatives, along with ongoing education for its team members to foster a culture of environmental stewardship.

The hotel’s commitment to sustainable practices extends to its guest experience. It has installed water-saving shower heads and dual-flush toilets that conserve water without compromising modern-day comfort for its guests. Additionally, its innovative Room Control Unit (RCU) automatically adjusts room temperatures to an energy-efficient 23°C when unoccupied, resulting in significant electricity savings. The hotel has also minimised single-use plastic bottles with the introduction of the NORDAQ water system that filters, bottles and caps water on the hotel premises.

One of its standout efforts is the promotion of a paperless experience. The hotel has introduced e-registration cards and encourages e-invoices, while its guest rooms feature a press reader providing access to a digital library of major magazines and newspapers. In-room dining menus and hotel information are conveniently accessible on the television, leading to a remarkable reduction in paper consumption compared to pre-renovation levels.

Lanson Place prioritises conscious dining by showcasing organic and responsibly sourced ingredients. In addition, its extensive beverage selection features sustainable, organic and biodynamic options. In an effort to promote environmental responsibility, the hotel has partnered with ecoSPIRITS for zero-waste spirits distribution, eliminating packaging waste in the spirits supply chain.

The hotel actively recycles coffee capsules, lightly used soap, glass bottles and aluminium cans, and it collects cooking oil for conversion into biodiesel. Furthermore, it has partnered with an Environmental Protection Department-recognised vendor to manage its food waste, recycling a total of 5,132 kg from March to December 2024.

A rigorous one-day audit conducted by Green Key in February 2025 affirmed its efforts and led to its certification in late March. Danny Tse, Area General Manager, expressed his pride in the team, stating, “This remarkable achievement reflects the unwavering commitment and effort our team has dedicated to environmental initiatives and green practices. As we celebrate this Green Key certification, we look forward to building on our success and striving for even greater accomplishments in the future, marking just the beginning of our journey towards sustainable development.”
